The First Social Business Youth Summit held on July 2nd, 2014 at the Golf Garden, Army Golf Club Rd, Dhaka was the first ever summit that focused on youth to amplify their participation in Social Business scenario. At about 300 students from different disciplines and different institutes along with 100 young professionals designated at various fields participated in this summit. The summit consisted of various panel discussions; knowledge sessions; interactive workshops and a whole lot more.
Shazeeb M Khairul Islam (Founder & President, SBYA Global) started things off with a welcome speech. He stressed the point, if social business is the future, then how can it sustain and flourish with speed without the participation of youth. This is why generation Y has to come forward and take the lead. M. F. M. Amir Khashru (General Manager, Yunus Centre) appreciated the endeavor of organizing such an event and promised that Yunus Centre will always support these sort of initiatives.
Ashir Ahmed (Associate Professor, Kyushu University, Japan); Ahad Bhai (Founder, Panther Social); Tafsir M Awal (Director, Multimode Group) shared their experiences and stories regarding the wonderful and encouraging global social business ventures.
Participants from Mexico, Chili, Nigeria, Canada, Japan, Korea and India shared different views and ideas of the respective countries into those social business plans. At the closing speech Mamun Rashid (Chairman, Asia Pacific General Insurance Co. Ltd.) encouraged all the participants to jump into actions and become the social change makers.
The glory of the summit was the key note speech by Noble Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus.
“Don’t just think you are a common person. You are a common person with a very uncommon gift. With this, youth of today is the foundation of tomorrow” said Professor Yunus. He also stated that the Youth can perform their best for the betterment of the nation if they are given the regulating power and necessary guidance. He expressed high hopes for youth to emerge with social business ventures and SBYA smoothing their paths.
