The 2nd edition of Social Business Champ was organized from April and concluded on May 28th of 2015. The theme was ‘Business for Social Change’. The open round needed registration and called for a general social business idea. From the 285 applicant teams only 100 teams proceeded to the 2nd round.
Next the formally registered teams attended a TSBD (Training on Social Business Development) at KIB. This training team comprised of Amir Khasru (General Manager, Yunus Center), Shazeeb M. Khairul Islam (CEO, SBYA Global), Rumana Habib (Head of Sales, Dhaka Tibune), Tanvirul Islam (Program Officer & Coordinator, Yunus Center), Wahid Hossain (Chief Ideation Officer, SBYA Global), Azam Khan, (Head of Marketing Development & PR Division, First Security Islami Bank).
Next was the primary business model round with a basic structure of organization’s operations, product definition and revenue generation. From this the top 50 teams were selected to proceed to round 3. Held at the EMK Center, Dhanmondi, here the teams were required to prepare a formal business plan including, production, distributions and basic financing plan for their idea. Among the judges for this round was Mr. Ujal Ibrahim (Faculty, North South University).
Of these 50 teams, only the top 15 reached the final round. Now teams were required to present their finalized business proposal complete with budgeting, marketing plan, operations plan and financing plan with returns.
As before, the final results were announced on Social Business Day. The Magnanimous Nobel Laureate Prof. Dr. Muhammad Yunus presented the winning teams with their awards for their performance.
As per the design the competition yielded the top 3 teams as the winners, with Creative Females in the 2nd runner up position, #Irrelevant as the 1st runner up and Terrific Trio taking first place. As an unexpected addition, team Super Trofeo was awarded a special award for ‘Creative Innovation’ for managing to inject a touch of innovative technology in their social business concept.
